Examining the role of the amyloid precursor protein of Alzheimer's disease in normal CNS function
The amyloid precursor protein (APP) has been well studied for its role in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However the normal function of APP is poorly understood. Numerous studies suggest that APP plays a role in neuronal cell growth. However, the precise function of the protein has been elusive. We are currently investigating a role for APP in regulating neural stem / progenitor cell proliferation and differentiation.
