Brain Ageing- Callisaya Group

Dementia and stroke are two of the leading causes of death and disability in older Australians. Even subtle changes in the ageing brain can lead to cognitive impairment, physical disability and adverse outcomes such as falls. The overall aim of our group is to reduce the burden of brain ageing and disability in older Australians.

To achieve this we are currently undertaking programmes to:

  1. Understand the risk factors, mechanisms and pathways of Type 2 Diabetes related dementia
  2. Examine the role of exercise in preserving brain health in Type 2 Diabetes
  3. Understand the relationship between brain ageing, physical function and falls
  4. Investigate novel ways of using technology to improve outcomes after stroke
