About the training

Cost

"Interviewer" 3-day training: $1,364 (incl. GST).  For multiple attendees from the same research team/project please contact the Director to discuss pricing.

"Trainer" 4-day training: $1,958 (incl. GST). Please note that restrictions in the trainee agreements apply to this training.

If you are from a developing country, partial or full course cost subsidy may be available on a very limited basis. Please contact the Director for further information.

Participants will also need to bring their own laptop loaded with a copy of Blaise. Blaise licensing information can be found at Statistics Netherlands. The cost of the Blaise license is not included in the training.

The sessions run from 9am to 5pm.

Training is conducted at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research, the medical research institute of the University of Tasmania. We are based in the town centre of Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania.

Generally we do not offer training at any location other than Hobart. An exception is if you have a large number of interviewers to be trained, in which case contact the ATRC Director to discuss cost and hosting requirements. Your alternatives for English-language training are the TRCs based in Ann Arbor, Michigan USA or Groningen, The Netherlands.

What you need to bring

A laptop with Blaise installed

Please note that a Blaise license is required for each computer on which the CIDI software is installed. This cost is not covered in the training. Blaise licensing information can be found at Statistics Netherlands. A trial license is available. It is possible for them to mail to Blaise@cbs.nl  and to request an evaluation licence for a short period. Contact Blaise@cbs.nl   and request an evaluation licence for a short period. This will be free of charge. After filling out the appropriate application form you will be able to download the Blaise software, and provided with a temporary licence key.

Training Dates

Future training dates will be advised, depending on the number of expressions of interest. If you wish to be placed on the mailing list to be notified of future training dates, please contact the Director.

Please do not book airfares and accommodation until you have been confirmed on a course.

Transport

Hobart City is located 19 km from Hobart Airport. Travel by car will take approximately 30 minutes. Participants in the training would be responsible for the costs of travel, accommodation and meals. For your convenience we have supplied you with a number of web sites that contain relevant information and will assist you in your travel and lodge arrangements. Travellers to Hobart International Airport can access a range of transport options for travelling to and from the Airport and for arranging travel within the state.

Bus Service

Shuttle buses operate between the Hobart CBD (accommodation hotels, motels, etc) and the airport for every departure. The shuttle departs outside the terminal after the arrival of every flight transferring passengers to the city.

Accommodation and meals

All the accommodation below is within an easy 10 minute walk of the training venue.

Zero Davey Apartments - 15 Hunter Street, Hobart

Zero Davey offers a range of apartments, providing living and dining areas, washer/dryer, kitchenette facilities, including Ceramic Cooktop, microwave oven, exhaust fan/light, cable TV, Plasma Screens, mini bar, air conditioning, individually controlled heating, dedicated internet access ports, some with spa's, water/mountain views and balconies/courtyards. Fountainside Motel offers four star apartments and accommodation. The hotel has been fully refurbished and offers contemporary rooms, with king size beds in most rooms. All our Hobart Apartments are air-conditioned for heating and cooling and all are non-smoking.

Hobart has a wide range of restaurants, cafes and fast food outlets available for all meals. Tea and coffee will be provided during the training.
